The Brazilian national postal company, Correios, has announced a partnership with the omnichannel e-commerce platform company Infracommerce to launch an e-commerce platform called "Mais Correios." This collaboration positions the Brazilian postal service as a competitor to e-commerce platforms like Shopee, Shein, and AliExpress. The partnership agreement was officially signed after approval from the State-Owned Enterprises Management Committee.
According to Zhongjin's understanding, this move comes at a time when there is attention on the financial situation of the Brazilian national postal company. According to data from the Brazilian Ministry of Management and Innovation (MGI), the country's postal institution incurred a loss of 3.2 billion Brazilian reals last year. Fabiano Silva dos Santos, the President of Correios, stated that the "Mais Correios" platform will help the company expand its business scope to reach consumers in all cities across Brazil.
Fabiano mentioned, "We will be the only e-commerce platform in Brazil capable of delivering goods nationwide using our own logistics system, aiming to further promote the popularity of digital commerce and sales operations in Brazil."
Correios highlighted that mainstream e-commerce platforms in Brazil typically focus on fast delivery or competitive delivery prices, primarily covering the southeastern region, leading to inadequate delivery services for goods in some remote cities in the northern and northeastern regions of Brazil.
The Brazilian Minister of Communications, Juscelino Filho, believes that this partnership will enhance the competitiveness of the Brazilian national postal company. He also emphasized that the Brazilian federal government has invested 800 million Brazilian reals to enhance the logistics and postal service capabilities of Correios.
The e-commerce platform in collaboration with Correios is expected to launch later this year, with plans to include small and medium-sized retail businesses in Brazil in the platform in the second phase.
