April 25 news: The second phase of Tuas Port development project will start soon. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore signed a contract of 1.460 billion yuan with Japanese, Korean and Dutch companies at a maritime technology seminar yesterday. It also signed six other agreements with local and overseas partners to strengthen the digitization and throughput capabilities of Singapore’s ports.
The Singapore Maritime and Port Authority issued a contract to an international consortium consisting of Japan’s Wuyang Construction, Korea Modern Group, and the Dutch company Boscaris.
Senior Minister of State Affairs Lan Binming of the Ministry of Transport said: "These cooperation agreements not only strengthen the links between the various maritime industry clusters but also make Singapore a maritime research and development center."
The second phase of Tuas Port development project will increase the port throughput by 21 million TEUs. By 2040, when completed, the port will handle up to 65 million TEUs per year.
The port will also operate more efficiently through technology and automation. The goal of the agreement signed today is to create an ecosystem for the maritime sector so as to increase innovation opportunities and promote the digitalization of the maritime industry. Including the development of self-driving cars, network entity security, intelligent operation and use data analysis, problem-solving solutions, etc., as well as opportunities for start-up companies to participate in these pilot projects.
