The 20 electric buses delivered by BYD, the leading company of China's new energy vehicles, were officially put into operation in Jeju, South Korea, on the 10th. This is the first electric-only bus fleet to be invested in a famous scenic spot in Jeju-do, and it is also the largest medium-sized electric bus fleet in South Korea.

BYD’s delivery of 20 electric buses (eBus-7) was used as a round-trip tour bus on the island of Jeju, a well-known scenic spot. Feng Chuntai, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Jeju, said at the delivery ceremony that the operation of the electric bus in Niudao not only played an advantage in BYD’s electric vehicle field, but also conformed to the development blueprint of “Green Tourism, Zero Carbon Island” by Jeju Road. A win-win project with a broad space for development. Not only is it important to promote the overall electrification of public transport in Jeju and South Korea, but also contributes to the economic and technological cooperation between China and South Korea.

It is understood that with the official operation of the fleet, BYD has occupied 12% of the market share in Korea's electric buses and has occupied 24% of market share in Jeju. Liu Xueliang, general manager of BYD Asia-Pacific Automotive Sales Division, said that the ebus-7 series that was delivered was promised to be fully charged for two hours, but the charge would be full within one and a half hours of testing. The previously promised electric bus can run two times. There is no problem with 100 kilometers. “In BYD's overseas market, we basically achieve ‘to do it”, which can represent a pattern and attitude of Chinese companies.”

While Chinese companies are striving to achieve the “going out” strategy, the Korean market has also seen the potential of Chinese companies. Kim Sang-hyun, chairman of Korea-listed company EZWELFARE, pointed out that BYD has the capacity to mass-produce electric vehicles on a large scale, and there are many new energy models and a large number of options. By contrast, Korean electric buses are of a single type. "The most important technology for electric vehicles is battery technology. BYD has its own core technology and has tens of thousands of research and development patents. We can trust such Chinese companies."

During his visit to China in December last year, South Korea’s President Wen attended the China-Korea Entrepreneurs Dialogue in Beijing. In his exchanges with Chinese and South Korean entrepreneurs, he said he hopes to promote investment cooperation between the two countries in manufacturing and service industries. The participating companies also expressed their desire to strengthen cooperation in the areas of infrastructure construction, automobile manufacturing, electronics, artificial intelligence, petrochemicals, and environmental protection. They hope that the “One Belt and One Road” construction will be linked with the direction of South Korea’s new government’s economic policy and create for enterprises. A more favorable business environment and market opportunities.
